Solar Park Proposed in Kent

A solar park generating thousands of megawatts of electricity could be created between Ramsgate and Richborough.

Plans to convert land at Ebbsfleet Farm in Ebbsfleet Lane have been submitted to Thanet District Council. Around 12 hectares of land could be turned into 60 rows of three-metre high solar panels, on a triangle of land between the Richborough Power Station, the Southern Water waste treatment works and the East Kent access road.

The proposal also includes equipment cabinets and a two-and-a-half metre fence. The project would generate 4,000 to 5,000 megawatts of electricity every year. This would be fed into the National Grid through a substation.

The applicant states that wildlife would be protected as no development would take place near the Minster stream which runs through the site.
