Plans to build a solar energy park on the outskirts of Plymouth have been welcomed. Members of the public were invited to see blueprints for the Langage Energy Park at an exhibition.
Under the plans a £15million 12-hectare solar farm would be built on part of the site. The rest would be occupied by workshops and offices to attract potential investors.
One nearby resident, Bernard Hope-Inglis, said: "I don't need a job but the next generation certainly needs them so I would welcome more development."
John Squire, South Hams district councillor, said: "We've got to do something with the site we can't leave it like it is. Something has got to happen, and we've got to find alternative sources of energy. This seems like a good opportunity to get something productive on the site."
Plymouth City Council councillor Ted Fry, Cabinet member for planning, regeneration and economic growth, said the park could generate employment for the city.
