Solar-PV Panels
How Do They Work?

Photovoltaic solar panels produce energy from daylight as opposed to direct sunlight so they will continue to produce electricity on cloudy and overcast days. The energy produced can either be used directly in the home or exported back into the national electricity grid. During the night electricity is used from the grid in the usual way. Most solar installations will export far more electricity during the day than is used during the night allowing the installation to generate both free electricity whilst saving you money.

The Process

Solar PV Electricity Generation
  1. Daylight reaches the Solar PV panels and is converted into clean electricity.
  2. The power is converted into useable AC electricity from DC using an installed inverter. This is usually a small box placed in the roof space.
  3. As the solar PV system generates more energy than is required the excess power is exported and sold to the national grid.

Solar PV Warranty

We provide a 2 year turn-key solution which is inclusive of workmanship, materials and faults or failure; in addition the components carry individual product warranties. The inverters are covered for 5 years and the panels hold a performance guarantee at 90% for 10 years and an overall performance guarantee at 80% over the 25 years period. All of our warranties are documented and provided free of charge.

As with any housing modifications, it is important that any work done is completed to the highest standards, accreditation is one way to ensure this.

Roof Suitability

Solar Photovoltaic systems are ideally fitted to a roof facing South East to South West that is completely unshaded for the main part of the day. Installations can be made onto roofs facing other directions but the output will be far lower. A typical Solar PV system requires a minimum roof space of 10m2.
